’’Mood Indigo’’
 Artistic comments

Filippo Bianchini!s new album ”Mood Indigo” is beautiful new creation that indeed takes the listener through a multitude of inviting moods from the floaty introspective ”Trasloco”, the triumphant ”Dedo & Utrillo” and to the groovy make you move ”Twist”.
I am honored to also have a beautiful song written for yours truly which I must say is probably my favorite.
It cleverly takes you through different harmonic and rhythmic landscapes all tied together by a lyrical singing melody, my favorite type of song.
The ensemble brilliantly supports Filippo!s luscious sound throughout the this whole recording and assist masterfully in bringing his creative vision to life.

I listened to “Mood Indigo,” Filippo Bianchini’s new album, and I must say I was impressed by its coherence, its sound, and above all by the maturity with which Filippo presents his music.
It’s an authentic, no-frills work, exuding a clear idea: there’s no need to prove anything, just to play honestly, and he does so with a personal, deep, and measured sound.
The original songs work very well and say a lot about him, and even the way he approaches “Mood Indigo,” the album’s only standard, is anything but predictable.
The band is well-oiled and balanced, with musicians who listen and truly contribute to the narrative.
It’s a great sign when a young saxophonist manages to put together such a mature project, without overdoing it, letting the music speak for itself.
Bravo Filippo. Keep on going!

Filippo Bianchini plays the tenor saxophone, the same instrument I play, with the ardour and reverent passion that this instrument, like the music that has historically best extolled its potential, namely jazz, requires—or, better yet, demands.
And among tenor players, we know very well what this means: first and foremost, it’s a matter of the heart, but then there’s legacy.
Expertise is taken for granted. The harmonies are the intelligent and sophisticated ones of the best contemporary jazz. However, what immediately strikes you from listening to these tracks— and it’s important to emphasize this: from all four of these excellent musicians—is yet another, “necessary” celebration of jazz as a deeply loved language for its entire “history” (Mood Indigo), for all its expressive and communicative potential, and for the possibility this unique music offers: to find a personal voice within a shared linguistic framework that remains solid beyond the thousand facets or directions in which music can venture.
Jazz has long been an international music, and this is another fact that emerges.
Although the quartet is made up of Italians, a full three-quarters of the group are scattered across Europe: Paris, Berlin, Brussels. This proves several facts.
Beginning with the evident disillusionment, for some of them, of finding the right credit in a homeland deaf, like never before, to any “authentic and indigenous” sonic vibration (and this regardless of musical genre).
A homeland where the little jazz that is played is expressed only through “tributes” to this, that, and that, as if an Italian jazz musician were incapable of writing something original and worthy of being listened to.
In contrast, the European reality, where the language of jazz is an established and universalized fact:
the Erasmus program implemented without any ministerial subsidy.
Moreover: the most authentic expression of the democratic spirit—of which jazz is, in my opinion, the greatest expression—at a time in history when the United States, the country where it all originated, has truly put itself in a position where it can no longer pontificate.
Apparently, today it is up to Europe to carry forward the precious legacy of this music, and I also sense this awareness in the “lyrical impetus and expressive urgency” that characterize both the sound and Filippo’s particularly melodic phrasing.
Ultimately, Filippo and his companions offer us sincere Jazz, looking only for honest ears… as if it were easy to find them!

I’ve known Filippo for several years and have had the fortune of appreciating both his artistic and human stature.
His mastery of the instrument and his talents as a composer clearly emerge on this album: there are six original pieces, as well as a tribute to the great African-American tradition with Duke Ellington’s “Mood Indigo.”
Also noteworthy is the talent and expertise of the other musicians, who—in my opinion— interpreted Filippo’s compositions impeccably.
A fresh and accessible album, yet profound and modern.
I believe Filippo still has much to say in the future: in this case, time is not at all a “tyrant,” but decidedly in his favor.
Beautiful album!

Great project. Well done everyone.

“Mood indigo”, the new album of Filippo Bianchini and his quartet is really worth the detour. Filippo Bianchini is an accomplished saxophonist, with a warm sound and plenty of ideas, a solid background in modern jazz and all its facets. Moreover, his qualities as a composer and as a leader also shine throughout the album. His compositions are contrasting, ranging from “natural” melodies to more intricate pieces. His refined sense of harmony and melody is enshrined in interesting forms and makes a smart use of changing meters.
The quartet is a tight and organic entity, with each musician contributing with a strong voice to the telepathic sound of the ensemble. Pianist Nicola Andrioli expresses himself brilliantly through fluid and always fresh ideas, bassist Igor Spallati ensures a robust foundation and delivers convincing solos with a nice sound, and drummer Armando Luongo stimulates his colleagues with his exciting, interactive and energetic playing.
A rich and successful album, to be discovered urgently.

-Piano player – Musician-Composer-

Filippo Bianchini is undoubtedly an artist with an eye toward new jazz trends, while maintaining a lyrical language both in composition and improvisation.
This work perfectly represents him as an artist, and the choice of musicians involved in the project is also aimed at achieving his signature sound.
The compositions, all original, except for “Mood Indigo,” are meticulously executed, as is the sound, which is of excellent quality.
